(CNI) - ENABLER
2002-Present
XTec customized AuthentX for the Navy to be utilized as
a CAC web-based application enterprise infrastructure that
includes central and hierarchical management techniques,
interoperable solutions, industry standard options, and
maximum use of current Navy infrastructure. The Enterprise
Network, Application, Data Base and Logistical Enabler (ENABLER)
provides one point of interface for authoritative data sources
that all applications can use to search, retrieve or store
data.
The XTec Enabler application met the basic requirements
for an enterprise level smart card credential management
system. This enterprise system is designed to provide millions
in savings to the Navy’s Commander Naval Installations
(CNI) by dramatically reducing the number of client based
credential applications. It will also afford CNI enterprise
level control over the business processes by standardizing
the interoperable protocols among enterprise level and legacy
applications.
ENABLER will also be used in combination
with XTec’s line of IP addressable readers and devices
to maximize the use of the CAC in applications such as Access
Control, Food Service, Manifest Tracking, MWR Tracking,
as well as others in the future.
The technical solutions were successfully developed and
delivered to exceed the requirements of the Navy’s
and Defense Department’s IT security and has received
DITSCAP and NMCI certificatons.Additional CAC-centric applications
are under development. The integrated system provides maximum
flexibility to the customer for managing changes in technology,
changes in requirements, and extendibility to other legacy
systems while maintaining an extremely secure solution.
The solution fully utilized the unique features of smart
card technology and provided a flexible, secure, interoperable,
and high performance system for identification/authentication,
access control and multiple practical everyday applications.
One of the key challenges to overcome on this project was
the magnitude of legacy access control systems the Navy
currently has installed. We developed architecture and open
interfaces to support those systems and worked with the
Navy, developed an open standard protocol to allow the various
access control systems to interface to the ENABLER system
for enrollment and revocation.
